Chapter IX - K
Training Programs - Work
Adjustment Training
Work adjustment training is an
appropriate service if it is needed to enable the individual to achieve
employment in an integrated work setting. Work adjustment training is a
training process utilizing individual and group work and work-related
activities. It is a service that provides generalized training and real or
simulated work in order to assist customers in the development of general
values, attitudes, and behaviors appropriate for a work environment.
Work adjustment training helps
the customer understand the meaning, value and demands of work. These services
help the customer to develop attitudes, modify personal characteristics, and
work behavior. This develops the functional capacities of the customer as
needed in order to assist the individual toward his/her optimum level of
vocational development.
This training is traditionally
available from rehabilitation facilities such as VRCBVI or community
rehabilitation programs. See Chapter
IX Training Programs (9C) for information on the Virginia Industries for
the Blind and Chapter
X for information on VRCBVI. All community rehabilitation programs, except
DBVI facilities, must be approved by the DRS Training and Facilities Manual,
Volume III.
- Procedures
Work adjustment training provided by DBVI facilities will follow the
procedures set forth in Chapter
IX , Virginia Industries for the Blind - Charlottesville and Richmond (9C) and Chapter
X, VRCBVI.
Complete the Individualized Plan for Employment and referral information
to the facility.
Complete and distribute authorizations.
Request the community rehabilitation program to send a monthly progress
report. This report should include these recommended comments on:
- The identification of the customer's
specific barriers to employment
- The work and behavioral objectives addressed
during the month and the achieved results
- The overall assessment of customer progress
(accumulated to date)
- Recommendations
- Tuition
Rates for tuition, allowances, and other fees in DBVI facilities are found
in Chapter
VII Financial Measures and for community rehabilitation programs in
the DRS Training and Facilities Manual, Volume III. All community
rehabilitation programs must be DRS approved.
- Time Limit
There is a maximum time of three (3) months for work adjustment training.
In circumstances when the counselor may extend beyond three months,
written justification must be provided in the case record.
The customer's work adjustment training must be focused on an integrated
employment outcome. If progress toward that outcome is not being achieved,
termination should be considered and other options pursued.
- Comparable Services and Benefits
The counselor must make every effort to obtain
comparable services and benefits available to the customer from all other
programs. This includes the public and private sector to meet in whole or
in part the cost of the customer's program.
